Marriage Equality

Hawaii has celebrated marriage equality for about a year now and it seems the rest of the U.S. has finally caught up with us! For a few years prior to the recognition of same sex marriage, we used to celebrate "civil uinions" which granted some rights to same sex couples in the state of Hawaii but was unrecognized in states that outlawed LGBT unions. For the year following recognition in Hawaii but prior to the recent US supreme court decision, our couples could get legally married in Hawaii with all the full recognition but would be in a legal limbo in their home state if marriage equality wasn't the law. We are so pleased to know that our clients no longer have to worry about things like new last names and drivers licenses when they get home.
